Phase I of the Centennial Regional Trail Link is set to open
October 5th – 8 am, Peabody Elementary School;
3128 S. Maplewood Ave, Centennial

Come join the community-wide ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of Phase I of the Centennial Regional Trail Link. This east-west trail provides vital trail connections to the High Line Canal. Nearly 1.25 miles, Phase I provides access to community assets including Peabody Elementary School, Goodson Recreation Center, deKoevend Regional Park and the High Line Canal trail. We are truly making the connections!

Festivities include a VIP community reception at 8 am on the Peabody Elementary Rest Stop. As part of “International Walk to School Day” sponsored by the Littleton Public School District, Peabody Elementary students will walk from the adjacent neighborhoods joining the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Come out and demonstrate your support for Phase I as well as the future phases of the Centennial Regional Trail Link. All community members, families and friends are invited!

“Trails and Trees; Paths to the Future”
Saturday, October 15th
8 am - Tree Planting
11:30 am – Lunch at Big Dry Creek; east side of bridge
12:00 pm – Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Mary Carter Greenway East Bank Trail

“Think globally, act locally!”!  That was the mission that many had in mind when they gathered on the banks of the South Platte River in April of 1990 to plant more than 2600 trees and shrubs on 22 acres in a single day. Fast forward twenty years to 2011 and that mission has not changed!

This fall on October 15th, we will be planting more than 200 trees on the northern end of the Mary Carter Greenway thanks to a $20,000 grant awarded to by The Mile High Million; An Initiative of Greenprint Denver. Volunteers will be working from Prince Street north to Oxford; designated as Phase II of the 1990 tree project. What a great way to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the 10,000 Tree Project!

THE BIG DAY EVENT April 16, 2011

There was an overwhelming turnout of volunteers for this years Trail Cleanup Event.
Many, many thanks to everyone that came out to ensure our trails are clean and safe!

Slide show from The BIG Day Event

THANK YOU!!!

On May 1st, we had over 40 volunteers come out to the Big Dry Creek Trail clean-up project and collect more than two truck loads of trash.  Garbage including old clothing, tires, shopping carts, bottles, cans and paper were collected throughout the corridor and creek areas.  Thanks to the efforts of community members, Foundation Trustees, partnering council members, and local girl scouts the trail was “sparkling clean”.

We would like to specifically thank the South Suburban Parks and Recreation District for their committed efforts to this event.  Current and future stewardship programs will include ongoing trail and park clean-ups throughout south metro trails.  If you know of a group interested in hosting a trail clean-up day to support the ongoing needs of our projects, please call (303) 753-0905.

What a Success!
2009 October Fundraising Event

Thanks to everyone’s effort and support, our 2009 October Fundraising event was a success!  The Foundation raised over $3,000 in October/November and encouraged more than 30 new supporters to join our efforts.  Thank you for your valuable commitment to our projects.

winner! We would like to congratulate Eileen Dawe whose name was drawn from the October gift incentives.  Eileen received a complimentary 2010 John Fielder special edition “South Platte Twilight Reflections” photo; the third of a five series collection.  Needless to say, she was ecstatic to receive such a memorable gift.  For years she has admired Mr. Fielder’s work and is thrilled to own one.  But more importantly, Eileen was excited to share her stories and trips throughout the trail systems which she uses almost daily.  Some of her favorite trips include walking along the Big Dry Creek through Belleview and Progress Park west over the Platte River Bridge.  She also enjoys biking on the Big Dry over to the Mary Carter Greenway/Platte River Trail and looping back to her neighborhood.  Eileen also shared that when her family comes to town from the mountains, they cannot wait to get out and hit the urban, and convenient, trails.  We are extremely grateful for trail users like Eileen who are significantly benefiting from our efforts!

October Membership Celebration
Saturday, October 3rd

To celebrate current and new members, we set the date of October 3 to party on the trail, and party we did! Dozens of folks gathered at the Riverside Downs Pavilion on a beautiful fall afternoon to meet Foundation members and community trail users. In coordination with the event, small community rides and walks were led by Trustee members. These trail tours began in Sheridan, Cherry Hills Village and Centennial and provided a great opportunity to explore the Big Dry Creek and Mary Carter/Platte River Trail corridors. Thanks to our tour guides Dallas Hall, Klasina Vanderwerf, and Bart Miller, for sharing your enthusiasm for the south metro trail system!

Throughout the afternoon, guests of all ages enjoyed jazzy music provided by the Ellsworth Street band and refreshments provided by the Celtic Tavern and the Egg & I. Children were splashing in the fountain, neighbors were dropping by from the trail, and the new Foundation t-shirt was shared as a gift for all those whom stopped by. Littleton Cyclery offered information on caring for your bike as well as healthy fitness snacks. What a wonderful day!
