Once the ribbon was cut, walkers of all ages headed west for a 5K Family Fun Walk. Along the route, participants enjoyed music provided by the Daddy G and The Early Bird Specials Band and the Malley Senior Center Band. At the finish, birthday cake was shared by all and participants visited booths provided by the Englewood Parks and Recreation, the South Suburban Parks and Recreation District, the Carson Nature Center and Arapahoe County Open Space. Complimentary refreshments provided by Caribou Coffee and Whole Foods. A special thanks to WHPacific, Inc., the major event sponsor. For over a decade, the Foundation has been working actively with project partners to build the Big Dry Creek Trail which will complete the final link to a 14-mile south metro trail loop via the Lee Gulch Trail. The trail will help tie together and link with the larger 450-plus mile Metro Area trail and greenway system with thousands of acres of open space, local, regional and state parks. Flowing primarily through neighborhoods, adjacent industrial and commercial areas, the Big Dry Creek corridor includes both natural and formal parkland. Users can follow the 10-foot wide concrete trail that closely follows the stream to reach their final destination or just meander along enjoying the natural environment and views. The SSPF would like to extend a big "THANK YOU!" to the Celtic Tavern at Riverside Downs for their special support of the foundation. Becoming a SSPF partner, supporting the 2009 Bike to Work day and mailing a dining coupon to South Suburban residents. If you're ever enjoying the Mary Carter Greenway be sure to stop in and pay them a visit! Click the logo above to visit Celtic Tavern's website! Big Dry Creek Trail and 30 Year Anniversary Celebration! The Event was a great success and the weather was beautiful. Thanks to everyone that participated, volunteered and helped sponser this milestone event. Big Dry Creek Trail Clean-Up
Volunteers from the south metro area joined together to clean-up the Big Dry Creek Corridor. Collecting more than 12 garbage bags of debris, bicycles, rugs and grocery carts, the groups worked for almost three hours to clean-up as much as possible. Working in an urban area can be challenging, but thanks to dedicated volunteers and committed stewardship efforts, the trail corridors will reflect their natural beauty for years to come. 14-Mile Multi-Use Trail Loop Completed! After more than a decade of planning, the final section of the Big Dry Creek Trail is completed. The South Suburban Park Foundation has been working actively with project partners since 1994 to build this trail which will complete the final link to a 14-mile south metro trail loop via the Lee Gulch Trail. The trail will help tie together and link with the larger 450-plus mile Metro Area trail and greenway system with thousands of acres of open space, local, regional and state parks. WOW! Your vote counts!!! Today, the County is working on a countywide Open Space Master Plan to guide future strategic decisions making efforts.
